Cofounder CLI
Install the CLI
Connect your agent to Cofounder MCP or install the CLI with npm. Node.js 22 or 24 required for the CLI.
The cofounder CLI puts the same operations in your terminal. Install it if
you want to drive Cofounder by hand, wire it into scripts and CI, or reach
the parts MCP doesn't cover.
You don't need the CLI to use Cofounder with your agent. Follow Connect an Agent to get started.
Install it
You'll need Node.js 22 or 24 on macOS (Apple Silicon) or Linux. Install the public production package:
npm install --global @generalintelligence/cofounder@latest vercel@59.19.0The pinned vercel package is the version the deploy commands are tested
against. Leave it off to keep a compatible global install you already have;
project-local installs (npm install @generalintelligence/cofounder) carry
the pinned dependency themselves.
Check it worked:
cofounder versionThe CLI runs on macOS with Apple Silicon and on Linux (x64 and arm64). It doesn't run natively on Windows: there, connect your agent to Cofounder MCP, which needs no CLI, or install the CLI inside WSL 2.
cofounder auth loginThat opens a browser sign-in and stores the credential under ~/.cofounder.
No account yet? cofounder auth signup --email you@acme.com creates one;
the password comes from --password or COFOUNDER_PASSWORD.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
cofounder auth whoami | Show the signed-in account |
cofounder auth token | Print a bearer token for CLI/REST scripts |
cofounder auth logout | Remove the saved credential |
Your account and settings
| MCP | CLI | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| — | cofounder me get | Show the signed-in user and the companies they can operate |
user_get | cofounder user get | Show which account is signed in (ID and email) |
user_settings_get | cofounder user settings get | Read your user settings |
user_settings_update | cofounder user settings update --timezone <zone> | Change settings; pass --timezone-null to reset one |
user_settings_replace | cofounder user settings replace --timezone <zone> ... | Replace all your settings at once |
user_timezones_list | cofounder user timezones list | List the timezones a setting accepts |
user settings replace resets anything you leave out to its default, so
read your settings first and pass every value you want to keep.
Finding commands and docs
The CLI can tell you what it can do, offline:
cofounder search "buy a domain" # ranked commands and guides for a plain-language goal
cofounder commands # the full command tree
cofounder completion zsh # shell completion scriptEvery command also takes --help.
These guides ship inside the CLI too, matching the version you have installed, so an agent can read them without leaving the terminal:
cofounder docs # list the guides
cofounder docs search spend ceiling # find the sections that mention every term
cofounder docs get guide/ads --section launchdocs get takes a page from cofounder docs, a unique end of one (ads), or
a docs URL, and ends with the commands to open each page it links to. Add
--json for structured output.
Keeping it current
cofounder upgradeThat prints the npm command matching how you installed. The CLI never downloads or executes anything itself, so run what it prints.
When to skip it
An agent on the hosted MCP server
doesn't need the CLI at all. Install it when you want the human terminal
path, API keys, or the parts MCP doesn't cover (auth commands, the
mcp config helpers).
Next: the Quickstart creates a company and gives your agent its first task.
